Breakfast club VIP visit at Salmestone Primary School, Margate
Â鶹ÃÛÌÒmvÔÚÏß¹Û¿´'s Salmestone Primary School had some exciting visitors on their return from the Easter break.
Polly Billington, MP for East Thanet, accompanied by Steve Reed, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and local Councillor Jack Packman, joined headteacher Mr Platten to see what was on offer at the school’s breakfast club.
Salmestone Primary School has been selected to participate in the government’s pilot scheme for free breakfast club places for all primary school aged pupils.
Salmestone has been selected as one of 11 schools across Kent and the only school based in Thanet to trial the scheme, which started in April. The aim is to ensure the breakfast club meets the needs of existing families as well as those joining the school from September this year.
Children at the school, and the other 750 early adopter schools will be able to access a free breakfast and parents will have 30 minutes of free childcare by dropping their children at school half an hour earlier.
Headteacher Thomas Platten is excited to be part of the new scheme:
"Here at Salmestone, we are delighted to have been chosen as one of the free Breakfast Club pilots. We’re determined to give all our children the best possible start to every single day, no matter their background. Our breakfast club not only ensures a healthy, nutritious start to the day but also fosters a great sense of community amongst our pupils, ensuring our children succeed in every lesson."
