TKATstudents attend inspirational 6th annual TKATOxford University Day

Last week, 25  of our Year 12 students from our 6th forms attended the 6th annual TKATOxford University Day.

The day is part of Â鶹ÃÛÌÒmvÔÚÏß¹Û¿´'s aim to widen access for state school students to Oxbridge and show our young people that they can aspire to top universities.

The students visited St Peter’s College and Worcester College. Sessions included a talk on the Oxbridge entrance process, a Q and A forum with current undergraduates, an academic taster session, lunch in College Hall, and a walking tour of the main university buildings.

The students attended a taster lecture led by a History scholar who introduced St Peters College and posed a range of philosophical questions to inspire critical thinking. Our pupils then attended a lecture held by a neuroscience PHD, where they heard a talk about linking STEM based subjects with Humanities: demonstrating the wide range of options available to study.

The TKATstudents found the day inspirational and had lots of positive comments about their experience:

"The day was enlightening. I found that the best thing was hearing student experiences. They answered personalised questions that could not be answered on websites and it was incredibly helpful."

"I thoroughly enjoyed having a tour of Worcester College. The grounds are beautiful and everyone we spoke to was extremely welcoming... the lecture that was given on Neuroscience demonstrated the freedom of university study. It showed the depth and standard of the Oxford level of academia and it was exciting to have a taste of the sort of philosophical and analytical questioning that I strive to engage in."

"The experience further inspired me to apply to Oxford after hearing how fulfilling and rewarding University life there is."
Megan  - prospective English Literature Student

"The trip was a really motivating experience, seeing and speaking to some of the students at the colleges we visited made me realise that the idea of going to such a well regarded university is actually attainable."
Coralie  - prospective Physics and Philosophy Student

"The day was an amazing experience and consolidated my motivation to attend Oxford. Thank you so much for making this day possible."
Amelia - prospective Law and History student

"Immediately the views of Oxford were captivating. We were able to see St Peter’s College, which had a gorgeous exterior and a wonderful atmosphere once we were inside. The talks were really interesting, and I really enjoyed hearing other people’s perspectives on different topics like philosophy and neuroscience. I got to see some famous landmarks and learn some of the city’s history."

"Worcester College was definitely my favourite part, as the gardens and architecture were impeccably beautiful, and our ambassador tour-guide, Leo, answered our questions in greater depth than any website could."

"This trip was an overall great experience, with very useful advice."
